Arnolds Rescue Center, the northern branch of Arnolds Wildlife Rehabilitation and Rescue Center, is a refuge for homeless or displaced horses and donkeys on 90 acres in Brownington, Vermont. The animals have a permanent home where they can live out the rest of their natural lives in peace. The animals residing at Arnold’s have adequate space, care, shelter, feed, medicine, and love. These animals get the dignity, peace and love they deserve.

Arnold’s Rescue Center also serves as a breeding facility for the critically endangered Baudet du Poitou donkey.

With less than 500 Poitous left in the world, our goal is to keep this breed prospering, growing the lineage, and improving the genetic pool in the United States. In June 2020, Arnold’s and the University of Illinois Large Animal Vet School have teamed up in a very special breeding program. The Hamilton Foundation for Rare Breeds donated three pure female Poitou donkeys and the only frozen semen in the world.

In June 2021, under the guidance of the University of Illinois, Arnolds and Cold Hollow Vet in Enosburg Falls, Vermont welcomed the first artificially inseminated Baudet du Poitou baby in the world named Hamilton Hastings. Arnolds is committed to continuing this breeding program in the future so watch our Facebook page for more exciting baby Poitou news!

Support Our Animals

As a 501c3 non-profit, donations are hugely appreciated. Currently, Arnold's receives no state or federal funding and is solely dependent on generous donations and volunteer workers. The responsibility of Arnold's is to ensure that all animals are given appropriate care for the full extent of their lives. With rising operational costs- feed, vet bills, housing, etc., this care can be costly, so all donations are greatly appreciated. Fundraising events and educational programs will be announced on Facebook.
